To Dye For

February 12th, 2011

Textiles – the beauty and the bane of our existence in fashion. My true love is textiles, seeing the drape of a bolt of beautiful silk or the touch of hand beaded fabric is what inspires a garment in to creation. This is a wonderful thing except when it comes to sourcing these beautiful textiles when we need to ensure that they are: ethically produced, sustainable, affordable to justify the end price of the garment, available in the time that we need them and at low minimum yardage. Take all of those hurdles and add custom print designs on top of it – makes a near impossible task that we face every day.

We love printed fabric – but we are particular in aesthetic. We can design the print ourselves but getting the yardage printed ends up costing a fortune and we don’t want to sell incredibly expensive garments. On top of that, inks and dyes for textiles can be harmful to the environment. I guess, like everything else, at the end of the day it is something we want to do ourselves.

So, this weeks experiment was hand dip dyeing silk crepe de chine for some Stevie dresses and a cute top. We used a simple process and though we did test a few pieces we are the type to just jump right in with both feet. Here is how our experiment has gone so far – we will keep you posted on how it turns out!!!!

The Perfect Dresses (for any Valentine’s Day occasion)

February 6th, 2011

The perfect Valentines Day can be spent many different ways; A night out with girl friends, an evening with your boyfriend, your husband, or even a first date. The key is to let go of all the meaning attached to the holiday so that you can just have fun and of course, make sure you have the perfect dress.

To answer that need there is a lot to consider. Valentine’s Day, February 14th, is quite likely to be chilly and it can be hard to convince yourself to dress up. Once you have the motivation, you need to hit the right mark: not too dressy, not too casual, something that will make you feel sexy but not leave your skin bare, and a dress that fits the occasion.

We have picked three of our favorite dresses that hit the mark and are perfect for whatever your V Day plans are!

This printed silk belted dress from Akiko pairs perfectly with these beautiful Robindira Unsworth milky quartz drop earrings. Pair with a metallic heal and a sweater or jacket and you’re ready to go!

Akiko Splatter Print Dress $201

Robindira Unsworth Milky Quartz Earrings $99

For something a little more understated, try our short sleeve silk crepe Corinna dress. Available in tan, but coming soon in black! Accent this simple shift dress with the Robindira Unsworth oxidized sterling silver chain with a smoky quartz stone set in hammered vermeil gold charm and then finish it up with the Double Happiness Gold Avani Ring which has a gold fire polish.

Corinna Dress $154

Robindira Unsworth Smokey Topaz Necklace $110

Double Happiness Avani Ring $90

Finally there’s our Bailey dress. We love the abstract floral prints in shades of purple and pink and of course the cowl neck, which makes it ultra chic and also warm for the Winter weather! Pair it with this great hand made cuff from designer Julieta Miro.

Bailey Dress $193

Julieta Miro Etched Cuff $62
